This research employs qualitative data. The objective of this study is to analyze the positive and negative impacts of the presence of modern retail stores on traditional convenience stores (toko klontong) in Simboro District, Mamuju Regency, and to identify the measures that traditional convenience stores can take in response to the presence of modern retail stores. The findings of this research indicate that the positive impacts of the presence of modern retail stores on traditional convenience stores include making it easier for the community to shop according to their needs and creating job opportunities for those who wish to work in modern retail stores. However, all traditional convenience store owners reported that the presence of modern retail stores did not have any positive impact on their businesses. The negative impacts, on the other hand, include a decrease in the daily turnover of traditional convenience stores as more consumers purchase goods from modern retail stores, a reduction in the number of buyers at traditional convenience stores, and the fact that modern retail stores offer a more complete range of products, leading consumers to prefer shopping there.
